Cloudmont is just a small ski hill in an unlikely location, Mentone, Alabama. A little gem tucked away on the road just past Desoto State Park, convenient to Summerville and surrounding areas. Cloudmont Ski Resort is the most southeastern ski mountain in the nation. Giving us Southerns our very own Rocky Mountain experience without the travel, expense and bitter cold conditions.
Cloudmont has been bringing winter to Alabama for 46 years. Jack Jones and Jack Jones, Jr. started the ski resort in 1970 and the same family still runs the day to day operations.
“Cloudmont” the film will be featured this weekend at the Lookout Wild Film Festival in Chattanooga. The film is about the Jones family that runs the ski resort. The film will be shown on Saturday night at the Memorial Auditorium.
The Ski Resort has nine cabins for over night stays and hours are 10-4pm and then 6-10pm on weekdays, 9-4pm and 6-10pm on the weekend. Price range $20-$55. Ski season in Alabama is open until March 15th.
