The flooring company received the Rising Star award for commitment to Komen’s mission.
Susan G. Komen announced that Mohawk was named as the 2017 “Rising Star” partner during the annual Susan G. Komen Partner Summit last week in Dallas, Texas. According to the company, the Rising Star award is presented to a partner who has strengthened its commitment to Komen’s mission by expanding its programs and exploring new ways to engage with the organization.
Mohawk reported that it began partnering with Komen in 2001, spearheading programs in both the residential and commercial arena — Decorate for the Cure and Specify for the Cure, respectively. More than $5 million has been donated to date, serving millions in more than 30 countries, the company said.
In 2015, Mohawk sponsored the Philadelphia 3-Day Walk and provided more than 800 pieces of soft, durable and eco-friendly SmartCushion to place under the sleeping bags of participants and crew during the three-day, 60-mile walk, the company explained. Then, in 2016, Mohawk expanded its support of the 3-Day across the country to include all seven participating cities and donating more than 6,000 pieces of SmartCushion to comfort weary walkers and crew members, the company reported.
This year, Mohawk announced that it will donate 8,000 SmartCushion pads and has grown its support of the 3-Day into a retailer activation where its top cushion retailers will be supporting walkers in all seven cities.
“Mohawk is proud to partner with Susan G. Komen to raise breast cancer awareness and funds supporting the mission,” said Brent Emore, vice president of residential finance and cushion general manager for Mohawk. “Receiving this award is an honor and a great way to start off our 3-Day participation. We look forward to helping even more people and, hopefully, to one day find a cure.”
