ROME, GEORGIA — OCT 3rd, 2015 — In the interest of public safety, officials at Wings Over North Georgia Airshow have postponed today’s airshow in Rome, Georgia. Any purchased Saturday tickets can be used for Sunday’s airshow.
“While we’re disappointed by the severe weather, the safety of our fans, pilots, aircraft and vendors is paramount,” said John Cowman, JLC Airshow president.
Cowman explained that the Russell Regional Airport facility is not equipped for the expected crowds to take shelter during thunderstorms, and that the possibility of road flooding could make driving to the event hazardous. In addition, the Federal Aviation Administration requires a minimum level of visibility for pilots and that ceiling can’t be assured today.
Officials are continuing to monitor the weather to determine if tonight’s fireworks show and headlining concert by the Charlie Daniels Band will be cancelled or postponed. Updates will be continuously posted on the Wings Over North Georgia Facebook page and website, and more media alerts will follow during the day.
