Rescheduled due to severe weather expected today and tomorrow. Weather permitting, new dates are:
March 22 – right (outside) NB lane closure beginning 2 a.m.
March 27 – deck pour over SB lanes beginning at 8:30 a.m., no lane closure needed.
I-75 lane closing Tuesday morning for deck pour at Exit 22
The outside (right) lane of Interstate 75 North in the area of Exit 22 near Valdosta will close for several hours Tuesday morning as deck construction begins on part of the new overpass.
A subcontractor will be pouring the deck section over the northbound lanes. There isn’t enough space to park the concrete pump truck at the exit, so it will be stationed on I-75. The lane closure is scheduled from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.
The deck over the southbound lanes is scheduled to be poured beginning at 8:30 a.m. March 23 and will not require a lane closure. Inclement weather will affect both schedules.
Work began in August 2017 to reconstruct the interchanges at Exit 29 at Hahira and Exit 22. The bridges were built in 1960 and the design is outdated for current and projected traffic. The $49 million Georgia Department of Transportation project is ahead of schedule.
Current bridge construction is south of the existing overpasses, which will not close until traffic shifts to new lanes. At that time the old overpasses will come down, making way for the remaining new lanes.
The construction contract was awarded to Reames and Son Construction Co. Inc. of Valdosta and Southern Concrete Construction Co. Inc. of Albany is the bridge subcontractor. The completion date for the two interchanges is April 30, 2020.
