Over time the elements can creep under a roadway surface and cause noticable damage.
Georgia DOT District crews will address one such Interstate 20 location starting Monday at 9 a.m. Westbound travelers will notice advanced warning near Exit 175 permitting staff to remove and replace a concrete slab at mile 173.5 near the city of Thomson.
The Department will saw cut, remove, pour back and seal this location in McDuffie County. Daily work closures could run until Thursday with a lane closure necessary until 3:30 p.m.
Though this is a spot fix for routine maintenance, Georgia DOT does have an upcoming large-scale maintenance contract planned for widespread slab replacement from mile 171 to mile 191 to improve the ride quality.
